Ensuring a vibrant, flourishing downtown is the primary mission of the Downtown Knoxville Alliance (DKA). Formed in 1993 as a Central Business Improvement District (CBID), the district encompasses a 0.67-square-mile area and is supported by a special assessment to property owners that is used to make improvements, enhance services and promote downtown. The boundaries for the district is Volunteer Landing to the Southern Railway tracks north of Jackson in the Old City, and 11th Street west of the Knoxville Art Museum to Hall of Fame Drive. Downtown Knoxville Alliance (formerly CBID) relies upon the energies and vision of community volunteers to develop and execute its plans and programs. An active board of directors and standing committees focus on four principal areas: development, marketing and events, security and parking/transportation.
APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS
The Downtown Knoxville Alliance (formerly CBID) Board of Directors consists of 11 members. One member is to be appointed by the speaker of the State Senate, one by the speaker of the State House of Representatives, one by the Mayor and the remaining members to be elected by the owners of real property within the district. Board members are elected for three-year terms.
MEETINGS SCHEDULE
Board meets monthly on the third Monday of the month in the Knoxville Area Chamber offices at 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. The board alternates times to provide both business and residential members the opportunity to attend.
