CORRIDOR K - TENNESSEE RIVER GREENWAY

Corridor Route Description

The Corridor K greenway is approximately 2.30 miles in length. The Corridor K greenway links the existing James White/Neyland and Morningside Greenways at Riverside Landing Park to the existing Holston River greenway.

The Corridor K greenway corridor proceeds through Riverside Landing Park as a 10-foot off-street greenway trail for approximately 0.20 miles. The corridor continues eastward as a 10-foot off-street greenway trail approximately 0.35 miles to the mouth of Williams Creek on land proposed as part of an expansion of Riverside Landing Park. An easement from KUB will be sought for the park expansion. From Williams Creek the trail proceeds eastward on elevated structure approximately 420 feet over water to a point of land where the raw water intake is located. An on-grade trail extends approximately 300 feet across this narrow stretch of land as a 10-foot off-street greenway trail. Beyond this point the trail continues eastward as an elevated walkway for approximately 0.47 miles. The trail makes landfall and proceeds as on on-grade trail along the railroad for approximately 0.20 miles before continuing for approximately 0.20 miles as an elevated walkway. The trail returns to an on-grade 10-foot greenway trail again in the vicinity of the 2800 block of Riverside Drive where it proceeds eastward approximately 0.60 miles crossing one sixty-foot pedestrian bridge along the way to the Holston River Greenway trailhead at the Riverside Drive and Holston Hills Road intersection.

Demolition in this corridor is likely to include but not be limited to asphalt paving, concrete paving and fencing removal at selected locations along with limited storm drainage removals. No major demolition is anticipated. At least two major structural conditions are anticipated in this corridor. Elevated concrete greenway construction is anticipated along much of the north bank of the Tennessee River where the greenway runs parallel to the existing railroad. Construction of a pedestrian bridge is anticipated over an unnamed tributary in the eastern section of the corridor.
Greenway Connectivity

When completed, Corridor K will be interconnected with approximately 22.4 miles of greenways including the Holston River Greenway, the James White and Neyland Greenways and the Bearden Village, Sequoyah, Third Creek, Knox/Blount, Second Creek and Morningside Greenways. Facilities that are linked by this interconnected greenway trail system include several parks, schools, churches and a YMCA.
