CORRIDOR A - JEAN TEAGUE GREENWAY EXTENSION

Corridor Route Description

The Corridor A greenway corridor totals approximately 2.27 miles in length and connects the existing Jean Teague Greenway trail to the existing Weisgarber Greenway trail.

The Corridor A greenway corridor totals approximately 2.27 miles in length and connects the existing Jean Teague Greenway trail to the existing Weisgarber Greenway trail. The corridor extends approximately 1.00 mile through the West Hills neighborhood as a neighborhood connector (8-ft sidewalk with on-street bicycle designation). The trail extends approximately 250 feet across the KUB substation property and continues approximately 0.87 miles through the proposed Tennova Hospital development as an off-street 10-foot wide greenway trail. The greenway trail then proceeds approximately 0.35 miles as a 10-foot wide sidepath along the south side of Middlebrook Pike to Weisgarber Road where it connects to the existing Weisgarber Greenway trail. Parking resources are available at West Hills Elementary School, at the proposed West Hills Neighborhood Park and at the proposed Tennova Hospital. Trailheads are located at West Hills Elementary School, at the proposed Tennova Hospital and at several locations where the trail route diverges from the right-of-way.

Demolition in this corridor is minimal and will include removal of some concrete sidewalk to install the trail facilities. The typical trail cross section shall be 2” asphalt over 6” base stone. Curb ramps and greenway trail crosswalk pavement markings are provided at all street crossings. No major structural work is anticipated in this corridor while curb and gutter, storm drainage improvements and limited retaining wall construction are included.

Greenway Connectivity

Corridor A makes connections to the West Hills Elementary School and the West Hills Neighborhood. When Corridor A is completed, the total connected length of greenway trail from the Cedar Bluff Neighborhood to the neighborhoods along Papermill Road will be approximately 8.67 miles including the Ten Mile Creek Greenway; Walker Springs Park Greenway; Cavet Station Greenway; the Jean Teague Greenway; Corridor A; Weisgarber Greenway and the Papermill Bluff Greenway. Facilities connected along the greenway trail include several parks, schools, churches and a YMCA. Bearden High School is connected to the Jean Teague Greenway by way of an existing sidewalk along Gallaher View Road. Future connectivity improvements to Bearden Middle School are recommended in this study.
