The City, Trees Knoxville and other partners working on the Urban Forest Master Plan project are moving into the next phase of creating the plan itself.
Attendees of a Sept. 13, 2023, open house reviewed a draft of the goals, recommendations and strategies based on input from numerous stakeholders and members of the public.
City Urban Forester Kasey Krouse was one of the night's presenters.
He identified the three goals a plan should address:
1. More trees.
2. Better quality trees.
3. A plan that is equitable for all
These are the eight strategies recommended to help meet those goals:
1. Build Capacity in Knoxville
2. Mass Outreach and Education Campaign
3. Protect, Preserve, and Ensure Longevity of Trees
4. Work at Neighborhood Level
5. Identify and Prioritize Planting Efforts
6. Control Invasive Species
7. Better Management
8. Institute a Plan to Regularly Measure Progress and Reassess
