Short-time absences can be covered through the use of sick days, annual pay, and the Sick Leave Bank.

However, the City provides long-term disability coverage for all benefit-eligible employees.

Employees eligible for coverage will have coverage on the first day of the month after they have completed sixty (60) days of permanent, full-time employment.

The coverage costs you nothing, so if you have an illness or injury and you will be out of work greater than 90 days, you will need to contact Employee Benefits at 865-215-2111.

Some disabilities may not be covered or may be limited under this coverage.

Please note that Long-term disability benefits are reduced by deductible sources of income and disability earnings. Deductible sources of income include the amount you receive as loss of time benefits under worker's compensation; the amount that you receive or are entitled to receive as loss of time disability income payments under any other insurance policy or welfare plan; the gross amount that you, your spouse and children receive or are entitled to receive as loss of time disability payments because of disability under Social Security, Railroad Retirement or other similar plan or act; the gross amount that you receive as retirement payments or the gross amount your spouse and children receive as retirement payments under Social Security, Railroad Retirement or other similar plan or act; or the amount you receive as disability payments under your Employer's retirement plan.
