Neighborhood Conference

Here is a profile of the three workshops that will be offered at this year's conference. More details coming soon!

A. Recode Knoxville: The Future of Zoning in Knoxville
THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL. Please choose the Community Safety workshop.

Gerald Green, director of the Metropolitan Planning Commission, will lead an interactive workshop about the massive effort to update and overhaul the city’s zoning code --- something of vital importance to every residential neighborhood.

B. Community Safety: From Opioids to Gun Violence, What Can We Do?

Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch will lead a panel discussing the opioid epidemic and the gun violence crisis and how they are impacting our community and neighborhoods, as well as law enforcement itself.

The panel will address the issues and questions, including:
How many people are over-dosing on opioids? How many shootings are occurring in our community? How many people are dying? What is the impact on our neighborhoods? What prevention and treatment programs are in place to combat this epidemic? Can average citizens play a role? What can neighborhood groups do to help make our communities safer?

C. Working Together Works: Stories of Neighborhood Cooperation and Revitalization
THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL. Please choose the Community Safety workshop.

Leaders in several city neighborhood organizations will talk about neighborhood improvement projects that their organizations were able to plan and complete successfully --- along with the lessons they learned in the process. Neighborhood leaders will pick up some great ideas for projects that can be funded by the Neighborhood Small Grants Program.
