Directions: In Mechanicsville neighborhood. From University Ave. turn north onto College Street, go two blocks. Park is on left across from Maynard Elementary School.
Danny Mayfield Park sits on 1.5 acres and was opened as a neighborhood park during the renovation of historic Mechanicsville in 2004.
An outdoor art gallery displays various African art sculptures for public viewing. Other amenities include a large shelter with electricity, a playground, and an outdoor classroom for students from the adjacent Manyard Elementary School and the nearby Knoxville College.
There is plenty of open space for field sports along with a playground and picnic shelter to enjoy.
The park is well lighted and there is a sidewalk that borders the park perfect for walking, skateboarding and children on bicycles.
HISTORY OF THE PARK
The park is named for the late Councilman Danny Mayfield, Knoxville College alumnus, co-founder of the urban ministry Tribe One, and a community leader who represented the 6th District from 1998 to 2001 until his death from bone cancer.
PARK RULES & REGULATIONS
1.) For the protection of our park and the safety of its users, the following are prohibited:
- No alcoholic beverages
- No open fires
- No hitting golf balls anywhere in the park
- No motorized vehicles in park
- No equestrian activity
2.) Per city ordinance, all animals must be maintained on a leash.
3.) Please be respectful of other trail users.
4.) Please help to keep our parks beautiful by disposing trash in proper receptacles.
5.) Hours - Open dawn to dusk unless otherwise posted.
