RECYCLING DROP-OFF CENTERS

There are five City of Knoxville Recycling Drop-off Centers and each is attended by Goodwill Industries. The Centers are open and staffed from 8 AM to 8 PM.

NORTH: Goodwill Store - 5412 Pleasant Ridge Rd.
SOUTH: Chapman Highway - 225 W. Moody Ave.
EAST: Chilhowee Park/Magnolia Ave - 210 Alice St.
WEST: Cedar Bluff - 341 Parkvillage Rd.
DOWNTOWN: Old City - 227 Willow Ave.


In addition to the City Recycling Centers, City of Knoxville residents may bring their recycling to any of the seven Knox County Convenience Centers or to UT's Recycling Center.

NOTICE REGARDING GLASS:
Glass is only accepted for recycling at the five City Recycling Drop-off Centers and UT's Recycling Center shown in blue and orange on the map. The County Convenience Centers do not currently accept glass for recycling.

NOTE: A number of reusable household items are not accepted in the curbside recycling bin or at the City of Knoxville's Recycling Drop-Off Centers but are welcomed elsewhere. RECYCLABLE AT CITY DROP-OFF CENTERS:

Recyclables should be clean and dry. All recyclables should be loose in the bins -- not bagged.

GLASS: brown, green, and clear (glass is not recyclable in curbside recycling bins)

• PLASTICS: #1
and #2 containers including cups, bottles, jugs, & attached caps (NO plastic bags).

• METALS:
aluminum cans, steel cans, & tin cans

• MIXED PAPER:
 
including milk, juice, or ice cream cartons, paper plates, cups, or bowls, coffee cups, all junk mail, magazines, office/school/notepad papers, soft-covered books, paperboard such as toilet paper/paper towel tubes, cereal boxes, tissue boxes, etc., paper bags, envelopes, paper folders, and shredded paper (only when fully secured in paper bags or envelopes). Not necessary to remove labels, staples, tape, or the plastic windows from envelopes.

NEWSPAPER: including inserts

CARDBOARD: flattened

REUSABLE HOUSEHOLD GOODS: Please give to Goodwill attendant

NOT RECYCLABLE:

PLASTIC BAGS & FILM: We recommend using reusable bags.

BATTERIES: 
Lead Acid, lithium, and rechargeable (no alkaline) batteries may be brought to the Solid Waste Facility for recycling (it's free!).

 STYROFOAM

ALUMINUM FOIL/FOIL PANS OR PIE PLATES

BAGS/WRAPPERS WITH SILVER INNER LININGS:
such as chips, candy, etc.

AEROSOL CANS/PAINT CANS

PET FOOD BAGS

CORDS, GARDEN HOSES, HOLIDAY LIGHTS, & OTHER "TANGLERS"


LIGHT BULBS: 
(fluorescent tubes & compact fluorescent light bulbs can be brought to the SWMF for free)

WINDOW GLASS, BROKEN WINDSHIELDS, DRINKING GLASSES

ANY PORCELAIN OR POTTERY MATERIAL: 
such as plates or pots

PLASTIC CONTAINERS HOLDING HAZARDOUS WASTE: 
such as pesticides/herbicides, motor oil, and antifreeze bottles

CARBON PAPER: s
uch as receipts

SCRAP METAL: 
such as lawn mower blades, brake drums, etc.
Please consider bringing to a local scrap metal recycler (like the SWMF for free)

NO MEDICAL WASTE: 
Insulin Sharps or Sharps containers are NOT accepted in the recycling. These items may be disposed of in your household trash in minimal, residential quantities only if placed inside secured and rigid plastic bottles. Commercial entities must contract medical waste disposal with a medical waste company.
