Greenways Corridor Project

Project Description: Through a TDOT Local Surface Transportation Program Grant awarded to the City of Knoxville, more than 23 miles of potential greenway corridors were studied to determine the feasibility, factors and possible routes needed to connect the majority of Knoxville’s existing greenway trails; 13 greenway corridors were identified for this planning study.  $256,000 was allocated for this project for preliminary engineering and design services.

GREENWAY CORRIDORS


Corridor A - Jean Teague Greenway Extension
The Corridor A greenway corridor totals approximately 2.27 miles in length and connects the existing Jean Teague Greenway trail to the existing Weisgarber Greenway trail.

Corridor B - Third Creek Greenway Extension
The Corridor B greenway corridor is approximately 3.60 miles in length and connects Corridor A and the existing Weisgarber
Greenway to the Northwest/Victor Ashe/Pleasant Ridge Greenway.

Corridor C - Fourth Creek Greenway
The Corridor C greenway corridor is approximately 2.08 miles in length and links the existing Weisgarber Greenway to the
Bearden Greenway at Bearden Elementary School and then continues on to connect with the Lakeshore Greenway.

Corridor D - Second Creek Greenway Extension
The Corridor D greenway corridor is a 1.1 mile extension of the Second Creek Greenway trail from the north end of World's Fair
Park to Baxter Avenue.

Corridor E - Old City Greenway
The Corridor E greenway is approximately 1.24 miles in length and links the existing Second Creek Greenway from a point at the north end of World's Fair Park to the point where it connects to the proposed Corridor I First Creek Greenway- Downtown
East where East Jackson Avenue crosses First Creek.

Corridor F - East Knox Greenway
The Corridor F greenway corridor is approximately 1.80 miles in length and links the proposed Corridor I First Creek Greenway-
Downtown East from the intersection of McCalla Avenue and Winona Street to the existing trail system at the Knoxville
Botanical Gardens on Wimpole Avenue.

Corridor G - First Creek Greenway - North Knox
The Corridor G greenway corridor is approximately 1.23 miles in length and links the Mineral Springs/Walker Boulevard
intersection to Edgewood Park.

Corridor H - First Creek Greenway - Broadway
The Corridor H greenway follows Broadway and is approximately 0.36 miles in length. The Corridor H greenway links the
proposed First Creek Greenway at Fulton High School to the existing First Creek Greenway where Broadway crosses First
Creek.

Corridor I - First Creek Greenway - Downtown East
The Corridor I greenway corridor is approximately 1.43 miles in length and links the First Creek Greenway at Caswell Park to
the Morningside Greenway at Hazen Street.

Corridor J - South Waterfront Greenway
The Corridor J greenway is approximately 1.71 miles in length of which about 0.10 mile is constructed as part of the adjacent
private development. The Corridor J greenway links the existing James White/Neyland and Morningside Greenways on the
north side of the Tennessee River to the existing Will Skelton Greenway at Island Home Park on the south side of the river.

Corridor K - Tennessee River Greenway

The Corridor K greenway is approximately 2.30 miles in length. The Corridor K greenway links the existing James
White/Neyland and Morningside Greenways at Riverside Landing Park to the existing Holston River greenway.

Corridor L - Smoky Mountain Greenway - Vestal
The Corridor L greenway corridor is approximately 2.60 miles in length and connects the existing Mary Vestal Greenway at the
South Knoxville Community Center to the existing Charter Doyle Greenway and the Gary Underwood Greenway.
