Next Round of Street Paving to Begin

Contractor crews in the first half of summer paved 14.7 miles of City streets in the 1st, 2nd and 6th City Council districts (South, West and East Knoxville). Between now and late fall, Rogers Group crews will be milling and paving another 18 miles in the 3rd, 4th and 5th districts (Northwest and North Knoxville), plus parts of the 2nd District that are being completed. In all, the paving work represents an $8.6 million commitment this year. Read More

Pavilion Coming to Urban Wilderness Gateway Park

Last evening (Tuesday, July 23), City Council unanimously authorized Mayor Indya Kincannon’s administration to proceed with a planned $4.6 million Urban Wilderness Gateway Park pavilion. The 23,000-square-foot structure and plaza will contain four bathrooms, shade structures, a water refilling station, picnic tables, and play features that include slides and climbing areas nestled into slopes, amid natural boulders and landscaping. Public Meeting on Washington Pike Project

The City recently received Notice to Proceed approval from the Tennessee Department of Transportation to begin acquiring rights of way for a redesign of the Washington Pike corridor between Interstate 640 and Murphy Road. The estimated $17 million project will improve traffic flow and safety, and as the project enters its next phase, a follow-up public meeting has been organized to update area residents, businesses and churches. KUB Work to Temporarily Close Cumberland Ave.

Starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19, KUB will begin a 2.5-month project to upgrade the natural gas and water systems serving customers along and near the Cumberland Avenue corridor.
