Honoring City Employees Takes Center Stage

Posted: 10/06/2023
The City’s success is a direct result of your efforts and this month we got to celebrate just how valuable our employees are!

In a span of just one week, Mayor Kincannon handed out more than 180 awards to employees at 2 different annual ceremonies: the Employee Appreciation Luncheon and the Employee of the Year Awards.

Both events are organized and carried out by our Special Events and Human Resources teams—and they were filled with reminiscing, inspirational stories, and lots of smiles.

September 19, 2023, the Mayor and other City leaders gathered to honor major career milestones—marking 3900 years of work.

Employees who reached 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, or 45 years working for the City were celebrated.

During the ceremony, NCIC Operator Paula Trout who has been with KPD for 45 years and Tony Vandergriff, a Civil Engineer who has been with the City for more than 40 years—were recognized for having the longest tenures!

Paula’s co-workers say she has devoted almost her entire life to public service and her more than 4 decades of experience and knowledge have made her an invaluable member of our department and Knoxville's public safety infrastructure.

And, Michael’s colleagues say he exemplifies customer service and that he always strives to be professional, conscientious, and attentive to the public and those he works with.

The fun-filled luncheon was held once again at the Civic Auditorium and featured lunch served from 3 food trucks: Hamburger Hill, Kazoku Hibachi, and Ajebrijes.

A week later, the Mayor honored 24 city workers at our Employees of the Year ceremony.

The awards were handed out September 26, 2023 in the Small Assembly room at the City County Building.

Supervisors described this group of employees as compassionate, respectful, enthusiastic, positive, reliable, and motivated!

This is the third year the City has decided to recognize multiple Employees of the Year.
