July 29, 2014 - The City of Knoxville's Finance Department has been recognized for its high professional standards after thorough annual evaluations by a national organization and government agency.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Knoxville Finance Department due to its spirit of transparency and full disclosure in its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).The department has received the award for the past 27 years.
Finance Director Jim York and staff demonstrated practices that go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles, according to the GFOA.
"This award is a testament to all of the hard work and dedication of the Finance Department staff," York said. "I'm very proud of their exemplary work."
In addition, the GFOA has awarded the Finance Department a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.
