Purchasing Division oversees the sale of all City surplus property - including plots of land, Fleet vehicles, office furniture, appliances, playground equipment, tools, computers, camera equipment, etc.
THE CITY SELLS SURPLUS PROPERTY THROUGH THREE MAIN CHANNELS:
1.) Plots of land are sold as surplus property through either a sealed submission procurement process or through an online auction process that the Powell Auction & Realty Company hosts for the City.

2.) Fleet vehicles and impounded/confiscated vehicles are sold at auction during vehicle sales held at the City's impound lot, located off of Prosser Road. These auctions take place every two months and are open the general public.

3.) Surplus property, including Fleet vehicles, office furniture, appliances, tools, computers, etc, is sold online through the
GovDeals Online Auction website. Once an item is purchased online, the buyer makes arrangements with the City's Surplus Property Manager, Tim Woods, to pay for and pick-up purchased items.

Purchased City surplus will usually be located at either the City's Impound Lot at Vice Mayor Jack Sharp Rd., Knoxville, TN 37914 (auctioned vehicles) or at the City's Surplus Warehouse at 6388 S Northshore Dr, Knoxville, TN 37919 (general surplus property).
