Neighborhoods Prepare for 2011 National Night Out

Neighbors across the city will gather on Tuesday evening, August 2 for National Night Out to strengthen ties within their neighborhoods and with the Knoxville Police Department.

In East Knoxville, Dandridge Avenue Neighborhood Watch will be joined by the Cold Springs, Five Points, 2400 Block (Linden) and Parkview watch groups at Walter Hardy Park, Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., for a picnic from 5-9 p.m.

In North Knoxville, the newly formed Inskip Community Association will gather residents at Inskip Baptist Church (4810 Rowan Rd.) for a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m.

In South Knoxville, Maynard Glen ballpark will be the scene of a watermelon split hosted by South Haven Neighborhood Association starting at 6:30 p.m.

And in West Knoxville, Westavia Woods Neighborhood Watch will hold a block party and cook-out on Stagecoach Trail from 6-9 p.m.

Here is a brief run-down of other events:

Members of Bennett Place NW will slice pizzas at 852 Bennett Place, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Chilhowee Park NW will hold a potluck at the picnic shed in Chilhowee Park, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Crestridge Apartments NW, 800 Longview Drive, ice cream social, 5 p.m.Fountain Heights NW, cook-out, 1815 Fair Drive, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Galbraith Heights NW, cook-out, 4345 Scarlett Lane, 6 p.m. Green Hills Resident Association, cook-out, 1930 Natchez, 6-8 p.m.The Harrill Hills/Longwood NW will combine forces with the newly forming Harrill Hills 2 NW to stage a block party and cook-out on Lindmont Road in Fountain City starting at 6:30 p.m. Lake Forest Neighborhood Assn., ice cream social, 307 Lake Forest Drive, 6-8 p.m. Lynnview Drive NW will combine a cook-out with a pool party, 119 Lynnview, 6-9 p.m.Members of the Murray Drive/Wilkerson Road and Norwood watch groups will gather for a BBQ cook-out and side dish potluck from 5-7 p.m. at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1705 Merchants Drive. North Ridge Crossing (Christenberry Heights), cook-out, Boys and Girls Club, 4:30-6:30 p.m.Oakwood Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association --- combining forces with the East Oak Hill, Ashwood/Paige, and Fairfax watch groups within its borders --- will have a cook-out at the Christenberry Club House, 5:30-8:00 p.m.Escaping the heat, Old North Knoxville Inc. has secured the Relix Variety Club, 1208 North Central, 6-8 p.m., for light snacks and drinks. Old State Rd. NW, cook-out, 166 Old State Road, 6 p.m. Head to the Strawberry Fields Market (corner of Hollywood/Sutherland) for snacks and drinks provided by Pond Gap Area Neighborhood Association. Seminole NW will serve up ice cream at 4701 Seminole Rd., starting at 7 p.m. Spring Hill Villa NW will gather at the mailbox pavilion for a 7-9 p.m. ice cream social. The Sundrop Drive/Butternut Circle NW will gather in the Butternut cul-de-sac for watermelon, lemonade and snacks.Wesley Neighbors will gather at 501 Rockingham Drive at 6:30 p.m. for light snacks. West Hills Community Association will convene at 8437 Cortland Dr. for light snacks at 7 p.m. Woodale Drive/Central Ave Pike NW, BBQ cook-out, 5720 Woodale, 6:30 p.m.

Several groups will encourage neighbors to turn on their porch lights in recognition of the nationwide event and as a signal of their participation in crime watch. These include the Dunlap Lane, Gladstone/Shelbourne, Frank Watt, and West View neighborhood watch groups.
