This month, South Knoxvillians are getting their first preliminary glimpses of what River’s Edge Apartments will soon look like.

Construction crews have started framing some of the buildings for the new 134-unit apartment complex, being constructed on the east end of Island Home Avenue, near the Island Home Park neighborhood.

New public infrastructure - a newly realigned Island Home Avenue, a public riverwalk and a new public road, Splendid View Circle - will accompany the construction of the River’s Edge apartment complex.

Work that’s currently underway:

- A new water line for Splendid View Circle is being installed.
- Electric relocations are in progress; new poles are being set and conduit laid for the new duct bank.
- Crews continue to maintain erosion control measures and traffic control devices.
- City staff is working with local businesses to continue routing truck traffic through the approved detour; the Knoxville Police Department is providing additional support by enforcing truck weight restrictions on Highwood.
