Week 27: Mass Demolition of Annunciation Wing Getting Underway
A few minor milestones are expected to be hit this week at the Public Safety Complex construction site:

No. 1, Renascent contractor crews will start mass demolition of the Annunciation Wing.

No. 2, Environmental Abatement Inc. crews will complete the interior demolition of the LL2 floor of the Central Wing Annex.

Here is what LL2 currently looks like:

LL2, Central Wing Annex

The Central Wing Annex, Professional Office Building and Women's Pavilion are being repurposed. The Police Department will be housed here, as well as Fire Department administration, Pension System and some E-911 operations. City Court will be housed in a new space to be constructed off of the C-Wing Annex and Professional Office Building.

Also this week, Environmental Abatement will be continuing work on the second and third floors of the Women's Pavilion, while Renascent continues to sort and clear debris from the Central Wing, which is being razed.

Last week, Renascent crews using a high reach excavator finished the demolition of the C-Wing patient tower.

Crews are cleaning up around the Central Wing following demolition of the patient tower.

Elsewhere on the vacated hospital site, NEO Corp. will continue abatement in the North / St. Joseph Wing ground and first floors. Messer Construction will continue installing temporary barriers on LL2 in the Central Annex, while Renascent will continue working on the technical demolition between the C-Wing and the Annex.

The City of Knoxville is investing $46.5 million to reinvigorate the vacated hospital campus and prevent it from slipping into a blighted state. Most of the City's funding is for the transformation into new public office space, but $6.5 million is specifically allocated to clearing outdated empty buildings on the northern end of the campus to make room for future private redevelopment.
