The Knoxville Police Department Violent Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the stabbing and carjacking that preceded the arrest of a man in Sevier County early Monday morning.
Based on the investigation so far, it is believed that the following occurred.
In the early morning hours of Monday, August 7, 2023, Knoxville Police Department Officers received a report of domestic disturbance in the Fountain City area. A woman was stabbed by a male suspect, who then reportedly fled in the victim’s car. The woman, who was known to the suspect, suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the stabbing.
A short time later, the victim’s vehicle was found crashed in the downtown area. The suspect left the scene of that crash prior to officer arrival.
At some point after the crash occurred, the suspect then allegedly flagged down a garbage truck that was driving on Henley Street. After the truck stopped, the suspect reportedly entered the cab of the truck, held the driver at knifepoint and forced the male victim to continue driving south on Henley Street towards Chapman Highway.
The suspect stabbed the driver multiple times before the driver ultimately jumped out of the moving vehicle on Chapman Highway. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.
The suspect then took control of the garbage truck and continued driving down Chapman Highway, reportedly striking several cars along the way. No injuries were reported as a result of those collisions.
The suspect was later taken into custody in Sevierville following a pursuit.
Numerous charges are forthcoming on the suspect, who was identified as Shawn White, 43 of Clinton, Tennessee.
