Suspect In Custody from Deadly Shooting at Big Oaks Apartments

UPDATE (September 30, 2022, 3 p.m.): The 16-year-old male who was detained at the scene of yesterday’s deadly shooting at Big Oaks Apartments has been identified as the suspect and charged for possession of a firearm by a juvenile. Additional charges from the shooting are still pending.

At around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2022, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the Big Oaks apartment complex at 3807 Middlebrook Pike in reference to a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male gunshot victim in the first-floor breezeway. Responding paramedics attempted to render medical aid, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as a 16-year-old male.

Multiple possible witnesses were found at the scene and detained for questioning. Following continued investigation, a second 16-year-old male who was detained at the scene was taken into custody for an outstanding juvenile petition. Charges are also pending from the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
