At around 4 a.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2022, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a single-car crash at Central Avenue Pike and Bookwalter Drive. Upon arrival, the driver of a Chrysler sedan was pronounced dead by responding Knoxville Fire Department personnel. The driver, a 40-year-old man, was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The investigation at the scene determined that the vehicle was traveling south on Central Avenue Pike when it went off the road for unknown reasons and struck a concrete culvert. The driver, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. The victim was transported to the Regional Forensic Center for further examination.
