Drug and Weapon Arrests for Week of January 17
This past week, Knoxville Police Department officers continued their vigorous proactive efforts to remove dangerous and deadly narcotics from the streets of Knoxville.
In a review of incident reports submitted by KPD officers from Monday, January 17 through Sunday, January 23, KPD officers arrested or charged a total of 49 individuals for drug or weapon charges over that seven-day period. The ages of those charged during that stretch ranged from the youngest at 19 years of age to the oldest at 68 years old.
In addition to that, over the past week, KPD officers seized at least 14 firearms that were possessed in violation of state law, over 27 grams of heroin, nearly 87 grams of meth, over 75 grams of cocaine, over 780 grams of marijuana, 40 grams of pills, 140 individual pieces of drug paraphernalia and nearly $10,000 in cash.
Charges from those arrests included six for possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, six for unlawful possession of a weapon, five for convicted felon in possession of a handgun and two for possession of a firearm while under the influence. Additionally, officers charged three with possession of a stolen firearm.
It will always be a top priority of KPD officers to take deadly drugs off the street in an effort to prevent overdose deaths as well as the violent crime that surrounds the distribution of illegal narcotics. As part of our ongoing public safety efforts, we want and need the community’s help.
