Drug and Weapon Arrests for Week of December 20
Knoxville Police Department officers worked hard throughout the Christmas holiday to take drugs and prohibited weapons off of the streets of Knoxville.

In a review of KPD incident reports from Monday, December 20 through Sunday, December 26, KPD officers either arrested or charged 47 individuals with weapon or drug offenses over that time. The offenders’ ages ranged from 16 to 72. In total over that time frame, officers confiscated at least four firearms that were possessed in violation of state law, over 26 grams of heroin, over 61 grams of meth, over 30 grams of cocaine, over 30 grams of pills, at least 60 individual pieces of drug paraphernalia and over $1,100 in cash.

The charges from those arrests included three for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one for possession of a firearm while under the influence, 12 for manufacture, sale or delivery of a controlled substance, one for auto theft, five for evading arrest, and 26 for outstanding warrants.

On December 23, Community Engagement Response Team officers were conducting walking patrols in the area of the Mission when they were flagged down by a security guard regarding a suspicious vehicle that was possibly selling drugs. In their investigation, officers located approximately 13 grams of heroin packaged in multiple baggies, as well as quantities of other narcotics and a digital scale. A woman was arrested for numerous drug charges.

Later that same night, CERT officers were on patrol on Cooper Street near Depot Avenue when they saw a car parked on the sidewalk. Officers smelled marijuana coming from the car and conducted a search. That search of the car and the suspect revealed individual baggies of heroin and meth as well as a loaded handgun. A man was arrested for drug violations and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

On December 26 at around 1 p.m., officers were in the area of Daylily Drive when they spotted a suspect wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. Officers stopped the suspect’s car and took him into custody. In the car, officers located a loaded handgun, over five grams of crack cocaine, various additional narcotics, over $1,100 in cash and a digital scale. In addition to the outstanding warrants, the suspect was charged with additional drug and weapon charges.

Officers have and will continue to focus their efforts on removing deadly drugs from the streets of Knoxville and firearms from those who wish to do harm in the community. As always, we need the community’s help to make those efforts as successful as they can be.
