Thanksgiving 2021 Traffic Su...
Thanksgiving 2021 Traffic Summary
During the Thanksgiving holiday, the Knoxville Police Department conducted enhanced, high-visibility patrols throughout the city in an effort to deter dangerous driving and prevent serious crashes on one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. Those enhanced patrols ran from 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24 through Sunday, November 28.
Thankfully and most importantly, over that 108-hour period of enhanced enforcement, there were no fatal crashes and only nine crashes that resulted in injury. KPD officers also conducted investigations into 70 crashes that resulted in property damage. The bulk of those crashes occurred on Saturday when the roads were at their busiest.
In total, KPD officers issued 355 citations for traffic violations and 228 warning citations. In addition to that, officers assisted 57 motorists. Eight people were arrested for driving under the influence during the enhanced enforcement period.
As the holiday season continues and with traffic volume expected to increase over the coming weeks, the KPD would like to remind motorists to exercise great caution on the roads. Drivers should always maintain manageable speeds, ensure that all occupants buckle up, eliminate any distractions and focus all of their attention on the task of driving. By obeying the rules of the road and practicing safe and responsible driving habits, the roads will be much safer for everyone who uses them.
