KPD Acquires AEDs Through Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding
Through funds from the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) grant, the Knoxville Police Department recently purchased brand new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) that will be deployed in the field and throughout every KPD facility.
The KPD purchased 41 Zoll Cardiac Science Powerhouse G5 AEDs from CoroMed. As part of that purchase, Zoll and CoroMed also included a Cardiac Science Powerhouse G5 Trainer AED, which is being used to train officers and professional personnel on the proper use of the AEDs.
Over the past couple of weeks, the KPD Training Staff began conducting AED training for select officers and civilian staff with additional training planned throughout the year and on a continuing basis. This training focuses on the proper use of the AEDs, advanced CPR, and other life-saving techniques.
“These AEDs will be invaluable for our officers and staff, “Chief of Police Eve Thomas said. “Our officers will now have another option available and the necessary training to sustain life when they are called into a situation where an individual is in a medical crisis.”
Every patrol squad will be outfitted with at least one AED, and every transportation van will have an AED on board. Multiple AEDs are also being deployed to Central Business District officers patrolling the downtown Knoxville area. Additionally, every KPD facility will have an AED with trained staff nearby.
