Daryl Rollins, 25 of Knoxville, Tennessee, has been indicted by a Knox County Grand Jury for vehicular homicide and several additional charges for his role in a crash that occurred on May 19, 2021 on Buffat Mill Road.
On May 19, 2021 at around 8:38 p.m., officers responded to a single-car crash at Buffat Mill Road near Spring Hill Road, where a vehicle was found crashed and engulfed in flames. Based on the evidence at the scene and witness statements, the vehicle was reportedly traveling westbound on Buffat Mill Road at a high rate of speed when the driver disregarded a stop sign at Spring Hill Road, narrowly missed another vehicle traveling on Spring Hill Road, lost control and drove off the roadway. The vehicle then caught on fire.
The driver, who was later identified as Daryl Rollins, fled the scene prior to officer arrival. The three passengers of the vehicle, including a 15-month old girl, were transported to the UT Medical Center. The child was later transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville due to the severe burns that she suffered as a result of the crash. On May 28, the child passed away from her injuries.
On Tuesday, July 13, Rollins was booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on the vehicular homicide charge and has since bonded out.
