Suspect Charged in Alcoa Highway Shooting (July 14, 10:15 a.m.)
Knoxville Police Department Major Crimes Unit detectives have obtained a warrant charging Randolph Thomas Garner, 32 of Knoxville, Tennessee, with second degree murder for the shooting death of Broderick Gipson.
At around 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021, KPD officers responded to the Ball Gentlemen’s Club located at 3005 Alcoa Highway, where Gipson was located in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. Gipson was pronounced deceased on the scene. After officers arrived at the scene, it was reported that two additional individuals showed up at area hospitals with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. One of those victims was 32-year-old Randolph Thomas Garner.
Through continued investigation, Garner was revealed as the primary suspect in Gipson’s murder. The warrant alleges that Garner brandished and fired a handgun during an altercation with the victim. As a result, the victim sustained a fatal injury and was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS personnel.
Garner was booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility following his release from the hospital on July 11 on unrelated outstanding warrants. His bond has been set at $150,000 for the second degree murder charge.

Update on Shooting at 3005 Alcoa Highway (July 12, 2021, 9:30 a.m.)
The victim from the fatal shooting that occurred at the Ball Gentlemen’s Club located at 3005 Alcoa Highway on Sunday, July 11, 2021 has been identified as Broderick Gipson, 36 of Knoxville, Tennessee.
The investigation, which is being led by KPD Major Crimes Unit detectives, determined that multiple individuals fired shots during the incident. In addition to victim who was pronounced deceased on the scene, after officers arrived on site, it was reported that two additional individuals showed up at area hospitals with gunshot wounds. The two adult males suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, no suspects have been arrested or charged for their role in the shooting and the investigation is continuing.
Shooting at 3005 Alcoa Highway
At around 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the Ball Gentlemen’s Club located at 3005 Alcoa Highway in reference to a shooting. Upon officer arrival, a gunshot victim was located in the parking lot and pronounced deceased on the scene. The suspect was described as a black male who fled the scene on foot.
Major Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which remains in the early stages.
