Come play in the street on Oct. 25!
Open Streets Knoxville will debut with a mile-long moveable street party on Central Street, between Willow Street in the Old City and Oklahoma Avenue in Happy Holler. From 1-4 p.m. on the last Sunday in October, the street will be closed to motorized vehicles, so that people of all ages and abilities can walk, stroll, bike, skip, Hula Hoop, dance, jog, do yoga, shop or play pickleball while moving along the street and visiting with their neighbors.
Merchants, recreation enthusiasts and culinary artists will be entertaining the Open Streets Knoxville patrons. There will be pies and food trucks; Crossfit, yoga and zuumba demonstrations; dance classes; play areas for kids; a bike rodeo; games; photo booths; a creative obstacle course; bubbles; and stations where families can create decorative banners for the route.
In other words - Open Streets Knoxville will offer a lot of fun choices!
Major sponsors include Three Rivers Market, the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club, the Old North Knoxville neighborhood and the Knoxville Track Club.
The event is being hosted by Bike Walk Knoxville with support from the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization and the City of Knoxville. A schedule of activities will be available soon on http://www.openstreetsknoxville.com/.
