Champions of Last Year's USA...
Champions of Last Year's USA Cycling Pro Road Race Visit DreamBikes-Knoxville
With one of the most prestigious cycling races bringing the world’s top cyclists to Knoxville this weekend, Visit Knoxville and USA Cycling held a press event Friday at DreamBikes-Knoxville in the Old City.
Megan Guarnier, pro cyclist and women’s 2016 U.S. Pro Road champion, and Greg Daniel, pro cyclist and men’s 2016 U.S. Pro Road champion, conducted bicycle demonstrations with staff at DreamBikes-Knoxville, including on-the-job trainees from the Boys and Girls Club. The pro cyclists also spoke with the media and posed for pictures.
"[This race] is more personal for me because I grew up about an hour away and we would always go to Knoxville to do all of our shopping for clothes and what-not," said Daniel, who added he often visited his sister when she attended the University of Tennessee. "The Nationals have always been in the South, but to have it in Knoxville is special for me—so I hope that it's always here."
USA Cycling's Pro Road & Time Trial National Championships offers a first-of-its-kind weekend in Knoxville, with hundreds of elite athletes from around the world competing for four national titles on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25.
Recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and the Union Cycliste Internationale, USA Cycling is the official governing body for all disciplines of competitive cycling in the United States, including BMX, cyclo-cross, mountain bike, road, and track.
This race is expected to have a significant economic impact on the region, drawing an anticipated 5,000-10,000 cyclist fans to Knoxville for the weekend.
Various events around the USA Cycling Pro Road & Time Trial will be held roughly 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 25.
