Henley Bridge: Rainbow Light...
Henley Bridge: Rainbow Lights This Week to Commemorate Orlando Anniversary, PrideFest
Tonight, the decorative lights on the deck of Henley Bridge will be turned to rainbow colors to mark the one-year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in U.S. history.
Also tonight, from 7-9 p.m., a vigil organized by a number of local groups is being held in Krutch Park.
"A year ago, people across the world gathered in grief and horror to honor the memory of the 49 innocent lives taken at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando," Mayor Madeline Rogero said today. "It was a day of deep sadness and loss. Today, we gather again to remember the innocent victims and their families. We gather to support one another in our efforts to live in a welcoming and inclusive world. I encourage you to join the efforts of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando United and make today a day of love and kindness to show the world that we will not be defined by acts of hate but by our love, compassion, and unity."
The Henley Bridge lights will be turned red, white and blue for Flag Day, and then will revert to the rainbow colors for this weekend's Knoxville PrideFest.
