If you're attending Open Streets Knoxville's event on Magnolia Avenue on Sunday, May 21, and you appreciate great handcrafted local beers, be sure and stop in for a sampling at the two microbreweries on the western end of the event area.
Saw Works Brewing Co., 708 E. Depot Ave., will be offering a special beer, Magnolia Rye, with all proceeds going to support Open Streets Knoxville.
Last Days of Autumn Brewing and Taproom, 808 E. Magnolia Ave., will present live music by Mojo Tweed.
The Magnolia Rye is the creation of Saw Works Head Brewer Nathaniel Sears.
"We're excited about Open Streets coming to Magnolia Avenue," says Ashley Taylor, who manages the brewery's tasting room. "It's a great event, and this really also helps increase awareness of the businesses along Magnolia and Depot. It's a reminder that, hey, we're right around the corner. We look forward to seeing all the people from the neighborhoods off Magnolia."
This next Open Streets event is from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, on Magnolia Avenue between Chestnut and Randolph streets, with a small loop onto East Depot Avenue.
The mile-long Appalachian Puppet Pageant will dramatically kick off the event, which closes the street for four hours to vehicular traffic.
Open Streets is an ongoing series of pedestrian- and bicycle-focused events, presented by Bike Walk Knoxville with support from the City of Knoxville, Visit Knoxville, the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization and dozens of local businesses and community groups.
The Magnolia Avenue installment will feature more than 60 activity providers and seven food trucks. Plus, several of the business owners along the route will be serving food and refreshments as well.
The Open Streets event on Magnolia Avenue will be Knoxville's fourth. It follows well-attended Open Streets events on Central Street and in Bearden.
