Bike Walk Knoxville and Part...
Bike Walk Knoxville and Partners Host East Knoxville Walking Tour
Bike Walk Knoxville, 5 Points Up and the Knox County Health Department are offering a two-fer: An Aug. 9 East Knoxville neighborhood walking tour that also gives residents a great opportunity to talk with their elected officials.
The walk - "Stepping Ahead Together!" - begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Jackie's Dream restaurant, 2223 McCalla Ave.
If the idea of health-oriented walks and bicycle rides through neighborhoods appeals to you, then you're in luck. More such events are being planned.
Bike Walk Knoxville organized a bike ride in the Fountain City area on July 12, and another ride will take place on Sept. 20, leaving from Trailhead Beer Market, 1317 Island Home Ave.
Complementing the Bike Walk Knoxville events are the City's Neighborhoods to Nature walks, which aim to encourage citizens to discover nearby parks and greenways while also promoting physical activity.
The first KnoxN2N walk was held July 11, with 200 residents from Parkridge, Fourth and Gill, Old North Knoxville and Austin Homes walking to the Ashley Nicole Dream Playground near Caswell Park. Joining the walk were Mayor Madeline Rogero, Deputies to the Mayor Christi Branscom and Bill Lyons, Council members Daniel Brown, Mark Campen, Duane Grieve, Finbarr Saunders, Marshall Stair and George Wallace, and dozens of City employees.
Additional Neighborhoods to Nature walks will be planned throughout the city.
"The increased number of events that highlight walking and biking shows that many Knoxvillians support alternative transportation and healthy living," says City Councilman Marshall Stair, who will be participating in Tuesday's Bike Walk Knoxville walk.
"Making our communities more walkable is good for our health, the local economy and the environment. This is fantastic."
