Community Development Week Emphasizes Safe, Affordable Housing
The City of Knoxville and its nonprofit partners across Knoxville celebrated Community Development Week nationally recognized March 28-April 2, 2016.
The week showcased several events highlighting strong communities and safe and affordable housing.
(This home at 1518 Louisiana Avenue was constructed by East Tennessee Housing Development Corporation, a nonprofit housing partner with the City of Knoxville. It is a three bedroom, two bath home that is accessible and Energy Star compliant.)
The City's Department of Community Development administers a variety of programs geared toward the re-vitalization of Knoxville's low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.
(Catholic Charities' Samaritan Place celebrated the installation and completion of their roof. $70,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds was used for the project.)
The Knoxville Area Fair Housing Conference was held Friday, April 1 at the Foundry. The Conference was sponsored by the Equality Coalition for Housing Opportunities in association wih the City of Knoxville and Tennessee Human Rights Commission. In addition, an awards luncheon recognized individuals and organizations for their contributions in promoting fair housing and equal opportunities.
Award recipients were: Drum Major Award - Dave Yoder, Retired Executive Director, Legal Aid of East Tennessee; Bridge Builder Award - Joshalyn Hundley, Vice President for Community Development, First Tennessee Bank; Advocacy Award - Highlander Research and Education Center: Social Justice Award - Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance
