Great to see retired educator Dr. Lula C. Powell at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting!

Dr. Powell was the longest-serving principal at Green Magnet Math and Science Academy, and City Council last night voted to rename Town View Drive off Summit Hill Drive to “Lula Powell Drive.”

Dr. Powell, now retired as an educator, touched the lives of thousands of children in her 42-year career in education as a teacher, librarian and principal – 27 of those years as the principal at Green Magnet. Her late husband, Bill Powell, a former teacher, business owner and longtime KCDC executive, served two terms on City Council.
