City Council at its Tuesday meeting will discuss and vote on a proposed $8 million agreement to resurface almost 64 miles of City streets.
If the Council authorizes the Mayor to execute the contract, then the road resurfacing work by APAC-Atlantic would likely begin by March. The proposal calls for the City to repave 46.1 miles of streets across Knoxville, while Knoxville Utilities Board would provide funding to repave another 17.87 miles.
Good news: Over the next two years, most downtown streets will be repaved - and then most won't have to be closed again for utility work or resurfacing for at least another decade. KUB's Century II utility upgrades are being completed as the downtown streets are being resurfaced, and the new asphalt will remain in good condition through the late 2020s.
