A section of Westland Drive will remain closed to through traffic for the next two months, as work continues on a long-planned drainage improvement project.
Westland is closed to through traffic between Northshore Drive and Morrell Road. Full closure is expected to last until July 16. One-lane closures between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. are expected along sections of Westland Drive throughout the duration of the project, which should be completed in October.
Through traffic should avoid this area and use the marked detour on South Northshore and Morrell Road.
The Westland Drive Drainage & Bridge Improvements Project consists of replacing the box culvert bridge on Westland Drive just east of Craigland Court, channel improvements, and utility relocations – along with roadway improvements on Westland Drive near Rotherwood Drive.
In an effort to minimize the flooding of Westland Drive near Craigland Court, the existing drainage channel along Westland Drive will be improved. The improvements include the widening of approximately 1,000 feet of the existing channel. To improve traffic safety, the new drainage channel will be shifted farther north, away from the westbound travel lane of Westland Drive, in order to provide a 10-foot shoulder along Westland Drive from Craigland Court to Craig Road.
