Big-time Box Beams Delivered to Jackson Avenue Ramps Reconstruction Site
The $8.2 million project to replace the structurally deteriorating 100-year-old ramps connecting Jackson Avenue and Gay Street literally reached a big milestone last week.
Ten large commercial trucks delivered concrete pre-stressed box beams from Ross Prestressed Concrete, located in the Forks of the River Industrial Park.
These aren't just any ordinary beams. They're massive - 30 by 36 inches wide and up to 64.5 feet long.
These are the beams that will be used to support the Jackson Avenue ramp decking. After the beams are installed this summer, the original pavers will be put back into the new decks. Jackson Avenue and the new access to Gay Street are expected to reopen this fall.
