Busy Winter Construction At Augusta Quarry Promises Convenient Summer Swimming Access
Construction underway at what will be the terminus loop and parking lot of the quarry access road.
Driving along Blount Avenue, you may occasionally be able to see workers transporting materials along the Augusta Quarry access road at the lower, southern point of Fort Dickerson Park.
The park’s lower entrance at Augusta Avenue is currently closed for construction to improve access to Augusta Quarry, one of Knoxville’s most popular Urban Wilderness hangouts.
A view of the access road to Augusta Quarry. The parking lot is currently closed for construction.
The $1.77M improvement effort will include a gateway with stone walls, a paved parking lot, additional landscaping complementing the existing forestry, and infrastructure to support future phases that will improve the quarry lake.
The base of the access road has already been dug out. The path curves to feed park visitors straight to convenient quarry access.
Soon, the frost will melt away, trees and shrubs will bear new blooms and leaves, and the sounds of wet flip flops will be heard idly squeaking on the freshly paved access road.
The project is expected to be completed in time for the 2019 swimming season. Click
