Open Streets: An In-Town Afternoon Adventure for the Kids
Looking for an in-town adventure for the kids this weekend?
This Sunday marks the 7th installment of Open Streets, where kids and their families can play in the street as a section of Broadway Avenue will be closed to cars between Glenwood Avenue and Emory Place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Organized by Bike Walk Knoxville, there are more than 60 activities along the downtown Broadway route, which highlights staple North Knoxville neighborhoods, dozens of businesses, and multiple historic sites.
Though there’s something for everyone at Open Streets, the kids are sure to have a blast with a succession of unique activities geared towards youth along the closed street.
For instance, kids will get to
“Be a Deejay”
at a booth hosted by WUTK 90.3 FM Radio. Those waiting to try a hand in the deejay’s seat will get to dance to their peer’s music selections.
AcroKnox will host an
AcroYoga
station, a combination of acrobatics and yoga. It’s a great opportunity for kids to test their flexibility while enjoying the thrill of acrobatic techniques.
As usual, the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization will host a
Bike Rodeo
, where kids can ride around an obstacle course on provided bikes.
AA-Air Company will have an
inflatable obstacle course
—sure to be a favorite for all.
Everyone knows that bigger means more fun. Experts at engaging children, The Muse Knoxville children’s museum will provide
giant bubbles and life-sized tic tac toe
.
These are but a few examples of the adventure children will encounter when exploring Sunday’s Open Streets event.
In addition to activities, there will be ongoing live music and plenty of options for food.
