Mayor Declares Oct. 5 Energy Efficiency Day in Knoxville
At a recent ceremony, Mayor Madeline Rogero proclaimed October 5 to be Energy Efficiency Day in the City of Knoxville and celebrated “the strong leadership and partnership of local government entities, utilities, service agencies, non-profits, building managers, and citizens who are committed to efficient use of resources.”
Energy Efficiency Day
(
#EEDay2018
) is an effort led by a national network of nonprofit organizations who are united in promoting the many benefits of energy efficiency.
The ceremony included many representatives of City partners in pursuit of energy-efficiency goals.

Mayor Rogero has made energy efficiency a priority during her administration, establishing the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from City operations and from the community each by 20 percent by 2020. The City is on track to exceed that goal due to a variety of efforts:
- Adding new fleet vehicles with lower emissions
- Retrofitting the City’s streetlights with LED technology
- Tracking energy usage at City facilities
“EE Day is an ideal opportunity to showcase the teamwork that has made Knoxville a more energy efficient, comfortable and sustainable city,” says Erin Gill, director of the City’s Office of Sustainability.
The City is participating in the nationwide celebration of #EEDay2018 on its social media channels using the hashtag and sharing partner content. We'd love to know how you implement energy efficiency practices into your daily life! Post your tips and ideas and tag them with #EEDay2018 on October 5.
