Big Turnout at Wednesday Workshop to Identify Chapman Highway Safety Improvements
Over 150 people turned out on a stormy evening Wednesday, Sept. 5, at South-Doyle Middle School to provide input on safety improvements for Chapman Highway.
The Chapman Highway Community Workshop, hosted by the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) and the City of Knoxville, is one step in a larger process that is anticipated to wrap up in early 2019. Additional community workshops will be scheduled in coming months.
The goal of the workshop is to gather community input for the Chapman Highway Implementation Plan. The plan will evaluate previous studies and recommendations, identify new issues, and develop actions for corridor improvements along a six-mile stretch.
The Community Workshop allowed area residents and business owners to rotate among five stations, using a range of methods to capture input. Stations included: mapping safety issues, tradeoffs on potential changes, budget issues, and a visual preference survey presented through large-scale images projected on a screen.
Information collection also included the opportunity to describe Chapman Highway in one word – as seen today and for the future.
