Crews Finishing Up Work on First Creek Greenway Segment
Crews are finishing up a final punch list of construction tasks for a new segment of First Creek Greenway in North Knoxville. The $1.3 million project will connect Woodland Avenue at Fulton High School to Edgewood Park. A ribbon cutting is expected to be held in the near future.
Much of the 0.6-mile greenway segment ventures through the First Creek Greenway corridor, offering an unexpected glance at nature in the bustling urban setting along Broadway.
Substantial engineering efforts were required to build the greenway into the creek’s bank, affording trail users vantage views of the rippling creek waters below.
Located at the heart of the Broadway transportation corridor, the new greenway segment will also be an essential element for transit passengers that use the Knoxville Area Transit Route 22 - Broadway and will expand mobility options to and from the bus stops.
Knoxville Parks and Recreation is currently working on plans to connect this new segment to the First Creek Greenway end point at Broadway and Cecil Avenue. In years to come, the future connection will allow pedestrians to commute all the way from Fulton High School to Caswell Park via greenway.
