Downtown Parking Tip Sheet: Dec. 21
Here’s the latest edition of a weekly blog series from the City’s communication team designed to help downtown visitors know about events and parking opportunities.
The last weekend before Christmas will be bustling downtown, with shoppers finishing their errands and locals bringing friends and family downtown for holiday celebrations.
Visitors are encouraged to use available resources, like the
Parkopedia app
and
DowntownKnox.org/Parking
to find the many downtown lots, garages and on-street spaces that are free after 6 p.m. and/or on weekends. Garages include the City-owned Dwight Kessel, Locust Street, Market Square, Langley/Summer Place, City County Building and Main Street garages.
Due to construction, the State Street Garage is likely to be full, due to the project that will add 570 additional parking spaces to the garage by the summer of 2019. The project has also closed South Central Street to through traffic, although there is a detour that will guide drivers around the closure.
This weekend:
Friday:
The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra presents
A Swingin’ Christmas
featuring pianist Cyrus Chestnut. Expect spirited performances of holiday favorites in the style of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and more. Tennessee Theatre, 8 p.m.
The River and Rail Theatre

The Unusual Tale of Mary & Joseph’s Baby
. Performances are Dec. 21-23 with show times at 7:30 p.m. and additional Saturday matinee at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The venue is The Swift Building, 119 W. Fifth Avenue. On-street parking is available on King Street.
Saturday:

It’s Ugly Christmas Sweater Night! Knoxville Ice Bears taken on the Birmingham Bulls. Knoxville Civic Coliseum, 7:30 p.m. Parking is available across from the Civic Coliseum and Auditorium for a fee.
The Tennessee Theatre
’s screenings of
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
