State Street Garage Expansion on Schedule: Anticipate More Precast Concrete Installation This Month!

Precast concrete slabs are being installed as the State Street Garage expands by two decks (570 parking spaces).

Check out this photo, showing what the brand new Austrian-made LR Liebherr 1300 crane can do – and has been doing for weeks. It’s capable of hoisting 96,000-pound loads, and it will be the primary workhorse as crews with The Christman Co. construction team over the next seven months build two new decks onto the top of the State Street Garage.

The expansion – which remains on schedule for a June 2019 completion – will add 570 new parking spaces in the heart of downtown Knoxville.

The 300-foot-tall crane is now in place on South Central Street, east of State Street Garage. In coming weeks, anticipate seeing a lot more installation of precast concrete and exterior spandrel. All the foundations have been poured, and some of the exterior stairs are scheduled to be installed soon.
