Keep Knoxville Beautiful to Host 37th Annual Orchid Awards

On Thursday, February 28, 2019, Keep Knoxville Beautiful will host the annual Orchids Beautification Awards at The Press Room, 730 N. Broadway from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Monday, February 25th.

The reception begins at 6:00 with complimentary beer and wine provided by Elkmont Exchange and Raddy’s Liquor Center. There will also be two specialty cocktails available for purchase by Post Modern Spirits for $10. Cocktail tickets can be purchased ahead of time with online ticket purchases. During the reception, guests can enjoy live music from Old City Buskers.

Dinner and the awards ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. The event will be emceed by WVLT’s Dino Cartwright. Keep Knoxville Beautiful will begin the ceremony with the announcement of Community of the Year and our plans for our 40th- year celebration. The community of the year is the area within Knox County where the majority of Keep Knoxville Beautiful efforts will be put towards within the 2019 year.

Mayor Madeline Rogero will be the keynote speaker of the night with a special guest from Keep America Beautiful.

City of Knoxville Public Service Director, Chad Weth, will present the third Felicia Harris Hoehne Award. Dino will present the Orchids Awards to a winner from each of the following seven categories: Redesign/Reuse, Outdoor Space, Community Garden, New Architecture, Public Art, Restaurant / Café / Bar / Brewery, and Environmental Stewardship. These awards are given to individuals who are beautifying our dynamic city.

Finally, Tim Wheeler, a former president and board member of Keep Knoxville Beautiful, will close the night by presenting the Mary Lou Horner Award to a previous Orchid winner that has improved or remains “orchid-worthy.” A list of all nominees can be found at www.keepknoxvillebeautiful.org.

The deadline for purchasing tickets is Monday, February 25th. Individual tickets are $85 each and tables for 8 are $624. Cocktail tickets are available for $10. Tickets can be purchased at www.keepknoxvillebeautiful.org. All proceeds benefit Keep Knoxville Beautiful programs.

The 37th annual Orchids Awards kicks off the 40th Anniversary of Keep Knoxville Beautiful. Keep Knoxville Beautiful will highlight 40 years of work throughout the event venue.
