The City of Knoxville offers a broad and innovative package of benefits to eligible employees. These benefits are designed to offer employees opportunities to provide for current and future welfare needs of themselves and their eligible family members cost efficiently. Most benefits become effective the first of the month following 60 days of employment.

A HEALTH PLAN to assist with (1) managing current and future health, (2) paying medical bills, and (3) providing choices in both premium and out of-of-pocket costs. Employees choose between two provider networks and two deductible levels.  There is also an option to participate in the My Health Wellness program, which includes a wellness credit and HRA dollars in return for commitment to basic wellness and self-care standards.  The health plan also includes on-site medical services.

THE CENTER (City's Health, Education and Wellness Center) is served by Premise Health, and located on the 1st floor of the Public Works Service Center located at 3131 Morris Ave, Knoxville, TN 37909.

SPENDING ACCOUNTS which allow for pre-tax funding of certain expenses including: a Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA), which is primarily funded by employees, the City contributes money to this account for employees who waive the City's medical insurance and for wellness activities in certain circumstances; a Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) funded by employees; and a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) which is funded by the City for participants in the My Health wellness program.

A DENTAL PLAN that provides all benefits-eligible employees with one free annual exam, one cleaning and one set of bite-wing x-rays per year, with the option to purchase more comprehensive dental coverage for themselves and their families.

A VISION PLAN that provides an annual vision exam to all eligible employees for a $10 co-pay as well as the opportunity to purchase more comprehensive vision coverage. For more information please visit www.EyeMedVisionCare.com.

A 457B DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN to which the City reimburses the first $10 each employee contributes per two-week pay period. The deferred compensation plan is overseen and investment fund decisions made by the Deferred Compensation Committee made up of City administration representatives and employee representatives appointed by the Mayor.

All eligible employees of the City of Knoxville are required to participate in the City Employees’ defined benefit PENSION PLAN. $50,000 of TERM LIFE INSURANCE free of cost. Eligible employees may purchase supplemental term life insurance on themselves and their spouse, purchase a small amount of dependent coverage, or purchase a life-time term policy through the City's voluntary benefits program.

VOLUNTARY INSURANCE options are available to employees, including LifeTime Benefit Term insurance, Short-Term Disability, Accident insurance, Identity Theft Protection, and a Critical Illness policy with Cancer rider. 

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP) - The City provides an EAP to all benefits-eligible employees and their dependents. The EAP provides up to 10 counseling sessions per issue per year for normal life issues.
