New Road: Crews Paving Waterfront Drive by Suttree Landing Park
Crews today are laying asphalt for the new Waterfront Drive.

Suttree Landing Park, the City's first new park in more than a decade, is getting closer to its end-of-summer opening. Today, crews are laying asphalt on the newly constructed Waterfront Drive, a 2,988-foot-long two-lane road that will be lined with trees and will offer direct access to the park.

The 8-acre linear park on the South Waterfront will have two festival lawns, a riverwalk, a children's playground, river overlooks, an accessible boat dock, a covered put-in ramp and parking.

To provide vehicle access close to the water, Barber Street and Foggy Bottom Street are being extended as well.

Suttree Landing Park and Waterfront Drive combined represent a $6.6 million City investment.

“As the park nears completion, you can really feel the excitement building,” says Dawn Michelle Foster, the City’s Director of Redevelopment. “Suttree Landing will be a real gem. This park will attract everyone from kayakers, to nature lovers, to families looking for a scenic spot to spread a picnic blanket.

“Part of planning a premier riverfront park is providing easy, direct access. Paving Waterfront Drive today is a significant step forward.”
