Double homicide on E. 5th Avenue  
Update (Thursday, April 30, 5:15 p.m.)

Lamar Mallett (DOB 4/24/90) has been charged with a second count of First Degree Murder in the shooting death of 38-year-old Ashley Marie Hurt. The investigation remains ongoing.

Update on double homicide on E. 5th Avenue (Wednesday, April 29, 9:30 a.m.)


At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, Knoxville Police Department officers were dispatched to a shooting with a victim in the roadway in the 2800 block of E. 5th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located 60-year-old Randolph Ingram laying in the street. After further investigation, a second victim, 38-year-old Ashley Marie Hurt, was located inside of a residence in the 2800 block of 5th Avenue. Both victims were pronounced deceased from gunshot wounds.  

Violent Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Leads were developed during that investigation that identified a suspect, Lamar Mallett (DOB 4/24/90). Mallett was arrested and charged with one count of First Degree Murder for the shooting death of Randolph Ingram. Mallett has been booked into the Knox County Detention Center and is being held on a $500,000 bond. Additional charges are forthcoming. 

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

After further investigation, a second victim, an adult female, was located inside of a residence in the 2800 block of 5th Avenue. Both victims were pronounced deceased from gunshot wounds.  

Violent Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene to begin their investigation. There are no suspects in custody at this time and the investigation is ongoing. 

The identity of the victims is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
