Mayor Helps Plug in New Solar Panels at Eastbridge Business Park
Mayor Madeline Rogero traveled to Eastbridge Business Park in Mascot, Tenn. on Friday to help “plug in” the new 1 mega-watt solar array installed on the site.
“The City of Knoxville is committed to working to make Knoxville a sustainable city -- one where the economy, environment, and community can thrive today and in the future,” she said. “Projects like the Eastbridge Solar Farm-- one of the largest solar installations in Knox County -- help make that vision a reality.”
The Eastbridge on the Rise Earthday Celebrations for Success event marked several infrastructure improvements made at the business park. In addition to the solar array, upgrades include thousands of feet of new road, new sewer lines and the designation of Select Tennessee Certified Site by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Event planners also took the opportunity to present the Development Corporation of Knox County with a $500,000 "big check" from the State of Tennessee for further business park developments.
The Mayor thanked the Development corporation of Knox County (of which she is a board member) and the partners who worked on the project: Powerhouse Nine, LLC, Vis Solis, Inc., RSI (Restoration Services, Inc.), Tennessee Valley Authority, Tennessee Valley Alternative Energy, and Enerparc.
“As a Solar America City, we understand that clean energy jobs are among the fastest growing in Tennessee,” she said. “Investment in solar and renewable energy means investing in the jobs of the future. We also know that commitment to sustainability helps our region be even more competitive for economic development investments.”
Future's so bright: Dr. Stephen Smith, Executive Director of Southern Alliance for Clean Energy; Mayor Rogero; and Erin Gill, Director of the Office of Sustainability
